The first public meeting of the Friends went well, with a generally heated discussion.  The plan, to approve the constitution, was not achieved, as a number of important queries were raised, with the result that further work is needed, this to be carried out over the coming months by consultation between the interim committee and the interested members.

The interim committee was formed, to carry the work forward until the first AGM, in April 2009 (date to be finalised), when the new constitution will be approved, and the committee elected by a vote of the members.

A number of members were recruited, and the details of the web address and email contact point confirmed with the members and future members.

As a result of the council's 'Super Sewer' (or Thames Tideway Sewer, to give it it's full name) public meeting tonight, about Thames Water's desire to build a long, sewage collection tunnel under the Thames, with a potential very large - 30m diameter - access shaft sunk locally, one very interesting fact emerged.

Thames Water's criteria with respect to where this access shaft will be are, in simplified form:-

Ravenscourt Park is more than 500 metres from the river, and, the southern boundary has an elevated tube line, making access very difficult.  So, Thames Water's representative said that it would be very unlikely that Ravenscourt Park would be considered; not impossible, mind you, just very unlikely.

As an aside, the first criteria also rules out Furnival Gardens, although this may be used for the smaller access shaft to connect the Stamford Brook river/storm drain to the new sewer.
